* The August meeting was very exciting! The meeting began with club business updates and announcements, including the appointment of Joan as secretary (thanks, Joan!) and the good news from Ken that everyone is up-to-date on their dues. The main portion of the meeting featured a presentation by Harvey Newcomb, the Director of Principal Gifts for The Rotary Foundation and longest-tenured employee of Rotary International, who discussed the Rotary Foundation's mission, impact, and various ways to support it through donations and estate planning. The conversation ended with discussions about engaging Rotarians in foundation giving, upcoming events, and the importance of promoting the foundation at district and club levels.
* Larry has submitted the application for VOTSP to become a Peacebuilder Club. The Peacebuilder committee (Marco, Larry, Tom H, and Rebecca has had a first meeting and is working on plans for our first projects. Suggestions are welcome, of course.
* Rebecca is doing the Ride to End Polio Fundraiser in November. You can make a donation here, and remember that the Gates Foundation will match your contribution 2:1 and Marco and Rebecca will match 2:1 as well!

* The Guatemala Literacy Project is taking pledges for the next Global Grant. Ask Rebecca how to make a pledge, and have the donation count toward your Rotary Foundation Giving.
* As always, service projects and events organized by other district 5495 clubs are listed here and in the calendar section of the website. Please let Rebecca know if you have something to add.
