From the Prez
Marco Cecala

I had the opportunity to attend the District Conference in Rocky Point, Mexico. Not only was it a great idea to combine two districts in different countries, but hold it at a great place.

The event was well attended, there was good Rotary learning and a lot of fun. DG Kevin Pitts really outdid himself with this event. RI was represented, the big message from the mothership is in planning. We were all encouraged to not only use the RI website to enter goals, but formulate a three year plan so our rolling progress could be tracked. A good idea and something we should embrace.

Our incoming DG, Michelle Holcomb was present. We had some time to talk and she now knows our club is a great place for Rotarians who travel, have two homes, or want a different Rotary experience.
Ron Williams is the newest member or our club.  We'll induct him next month, as he had some technical issues this month  He lives in Prescott and has a long and active history with Rotary.
What's New at VOSP

At the meeting, Tom H., Ken, and Marco shared their experience at the Bi-District Conference in Rocky Point last weekend.

Tom and Rebecca have picked the winners in the Peace Essay Contest for eighth grade students at Desert Spirit School.  Marco and Rebecca will present certificates and prizes (gift cards) for the first three at the school's Commencement May 22 at 9:30AM.  All members are welcome!

John has agreed to write the club's District Grant application for our dictionary project.  There's still time before the May 31 deadline to submit a second application.  Your ideas are welcome!

Paperwork has been completed (whew!  that took more than a year) to donate our funds ($475) in the District 5495 Charitable Fund to The Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona.

Rebecca has reached out to all of the clubs in the district about their service projects.  Responses are coming in , and projects are listed in the calendar section of our website, and at the bottom of this newsletter.  She'd still like someone to be the Service Project Chair and take this job over. Please.

Tom H is now a board member of the District 5495 Charitable Fund.  Congratulations, Tom.  Perhaps we'll have a program about the fund soon, but the bottom line is that it serves clubs like ours without a foundation which would like to offer donors a way to get tax deductions for their donations.

We'll have a speaker from outside our club at our June Meeting, Thanks to Tom H, our Speaker Chair.  Please be sure to log on to hear Teresa Haire share her experience training to do mental health first aid.
